POSITION TITLE: Production Engineer

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for development and maintenance of the Digital Asset Management system, including hardware installation and maintenance as well as software installation, maintenance and custom coding integral to the system’s function.
1. Work with Michael Smith to install and customize hardware and software for DAM system.
2. Work with New Media department to obtain careful understanding of distribution requirements for each new partner, and due dates. Work with DAM vendors to complete set up of each new partner transcoding format(s), metadata and delivery requirements. Work with editors to troubleshoot any problems or failures in new partner set-ups to complete deliveries.
3. Work with Production department leaders to establish “best practices” policies for editors on capturing video, audio and metadata in archive system.
4. Work with New Media department to establish policies on how long completed deliveries are kept, and how verification of delivery will be delivered to both New Media and Accounting Departments.
5. Work with installation vendors to make policy decisions on how software will be used, and install all licenses on individual systems as required. Keep all individual computer stations, as well as core DAM systems, up-to-date with licenses and updates as needed.
6. Help determine how knowledge and tasks will need to be divided among staff to keep system running and functional 24/7.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. 5 or more years of related experience. Direct relevant technical experience may be substituted for education.
2. Excellent organization, time management and communication skills.
3. Significant knowledge of editing systems (FCP and AVID) as well as their typical shared storage systems, video terminology (dropped frames, fps, sync, etc), and creative software (Final Cut Studio, Creative Suite, etc)
4. Functional knowledge of video and audio format transcoding/compression codecs. (WMV, QT, FLV, MPG, DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.) DRM experience a plus.
5. Able to set up and maintain Macintosh, PC and/or Linux hardware.
6. Experience with storage systems – install, configure and maintain drives; and tape archive systems.
7. Xsan 2 Administration Certification (StorNext experience a plus).
8. Experience with Fibre channel (Qlogic/LSI HBA, switches, cabling, fabric configuration).
9. Some understanding of networking (TCP/IP, routing, wireless, protocols, etc)
10. Experience with other Digital Asset Management systems.
11. Ability to maintain discretion and confidential information.
